The “Mechanical Bird” is the first of an ongoing series of workshops that will explore a wide variety of new and exciting mixed media techniques. The workshops are based on original projects and techniques developed by local instructors, Charley Slaughter and Kerin Gale. Charley and Kerin are also booked to teach at art retreats around the country. Both beginners and experienced artists will have great fun while working with new art materials.
Like many of the upcoming workshops, the Mechanical Bird is being offered at the Coquille Valley Art Center at a reasonable cost compared to fees charged by national art retreats. This is continuing in the tradition of offering affordable learning opportunities for local residents that may not have the opportunity to attend these classes elsewhere.
Some of the classes will be using BronzClay, a new inexpensive metal clay that can be sculpted and then fired in a kiln. This process burns away all of the clay and leaves the metal in the exact shape that was sculpted prior to firing. We will also offer many other classes with different kinds of clay such as resin clay, new types of acrylic paints, inks and other materials that create great effects such as crackling and aged surfaces.
We will work with fabrics, fibers, metals, canvas, found objects, paints, clays and many more mechanical art projects! Students can expect to learn in a fun, warm and fun environment and are encouraged to experiment as much as they’d like while enjoying the process.
In addition to Second Saturdays, there will be some other weekend workshops offered so check back often as we will be adding more soon! If you would like to be on the mailing list, just write to coquille.art (at) gmail.com with “Mixed Media Workshops” in the subject line.
