Crosby and Weaver Honored

CVAA is proud to announce an Art Show that showcases two of their art instructors, Anna Crosby and Pat Weaver. Forty-seven pieces of art are included in the current show. These multi-talented women are experienced in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and graphic mediums.

The show will be at the Art Center during the month of March. The public is invited to attend an Artists’ Reception in their honor on Sunday March 14th, from1 – 4pm. Refreshments and door prizes are planned.

Yoga Classes to Expand

Yoga instructor leslie Thallon has been holding classes on Monday and Thursday evening, at the Coquille Valley Art Center. She plans to increase that to include a morning class also. Evening classes are from 6 – 7pm and the Friday morning class will be from 8:30 – 9:30. She invites the public to come for an hour of easy stretching, strengthening postures, and relaxation. Her classes are suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced.

Thallon intends to keep the cost reasonable so that more people can benefit from the experience of Yoga. Members of CVAA pay $5.50 a session and nonmembers pay $6.50.

Keith Sluder Demonstration and Art Workshop

Bend artist Keith Sluder will give a free demonstration of water-based mediums on Thursday March 18th, at 3pm, at CVAA. It will be followed by a 2 day “Dynamic Landscape” workshop on Saturday and Sunday March 20 -21st, 10 – 4pm. He will share talents and techniques gained from 40 years of experience. Students taking the class will be able to use water-based paints, watercolor, Shiva caseins, acrylics and several other specialty paints provided. The fee will include his 40 page workbook showing step by step techniques and secrets. Cost of the two day workshop is $110 for CVAA members and $130 for nonmembers. Class size is limited. Student Art Show in February

122 students have entered their art work in CVAA’s 6th Annual Student Art Show and Contest! The show will be open to the public for viewing Mon. – Fri., 10 – 3 pm, through Feb. 26th. Everyone is invited to a special reception on Thursday Feb. 4th, from 6:30 – 8 pm, to award ribbons and prizes to winner. Donation only, refreshments will be served.

Young Artists’ Show in February

All young artists, ages 3 – 18, are invited to participate in the Young Artists Show, February 2 – 26th. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for each age group.

Reception for the public is February 4th from 6:30 to 8pm. Refreshments will be served, and ribbons and prizes awarded that evening.

Entries should be brought to the Art Center Jan. 11 – 22nd, Mon/Thurs/Fri 10 – 4pm, or Tues/Wed. 10 – 3pm.

Open House and Bazaar ~ December 5

We welcome the community to our Open House this Saturday, December 5 from 10 – 4pm. Join us for baked goodies, art items for sale such as pottery, paintings, cards and jewelry. Also on sale will be “Old Barns Of Coos County” 2010 calendars. One of the featured barns is shown below.

This coordinates with Coquille’s Tour of Homes and holiday celebration.

December a Busy Month at CVAA

Coquille Valley Art Association is offering several special workshops during the month of December, as well as hosting a Bazaar and Open House. These are all part of their efforts to offer art experiences to more people in the community, at more convenient times.

Starting on December 2nd, Shirley Lee will offer a 4 week class for beginning quilters. It will be held on Wednesdays, from 1 – 3pm., at a cost of $22 for members and $26 for nonmembers. Call her at 404-3208 for more information.

Saturday December 5th will be the annual Open House and Holiday Bazaar at the Art Center, from 10 – 4pm. This coordinates with Coquille’s Tour of Homes and holiday celebration.

A new series of Stained Glass classes will begin on Dec. 7th and 11th. Monday’s classes are in the evening from 6-9 pm and Friday’s classes are from 9:30 – 12:30 am. CVAA members pay $66 for the 7 week class, and nonmembers will pay $78. Contact Cheryl Franich at 572-2302

Kerin Gale invites the public to join her for a fun and playful workshop making angel ornaments with movable wings. All materials are provided. Call Kerin at 396-6031, to register before Dec. 5th. Members will pay $15, and nonmembers will pay $19.

Amber Harris will be offering a class in making earrings with beads, on Saturday Dec. 12th. All materials to make 3 pairs of earrings, will be provided. Cost is $22 and $26. Contact Kathy at 572-2198 to register. Class size is limited to eight.

Flying Angel Ornaments Workshop

Join me for a fun and playful workshop to make paper doll angel ornaments from sweet vintage images of children with a movable element – flying wings!
Learn how to add eyelets and brads to create movable components in paper based art projects. The wings will fly up and down by pulling/pushing on a decorative element under the angel. We’ll use a variety of paints including metallics, ink and stamps and more to decorate our angels. Then we’ll further embellish with tatted lace, doilies, fabric remnants and buttons. Bring your own special buttons, trims, etc. if you’d like.

You’ll also receive a handout with simple instructions to make more angels from your own family photos using a photo copy machine or your own computer printer.

These are perfect as ornaments, to tuck into Christmas cards, stocking stuffers or use as gift tags for a delightful and memorable impression.

When they aren’t flying around the room they often land on the Christmas tree to rest.

Fall Classes

New Pottery Classes Beginning

Roger Vines, retired ceramics teacher, will be offering a series of two four week classes at the CVAA Pottery Department. The first series, Sculpting, will be on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 on October 29, Nov. 5, 12, and 19.

Four classes on Basic Hand-building will be held on Tuesday mornings, from 9:30 – 11:30, November 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Cost for each series will $33 for members, and $40 for non-members. A $10 supply fee will be added for those needing to use tools, clay, and glazes.
